My name is Dr. Elise Lewis, and I am the Vice President of the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention and the Chair of the 2020 Program Committee. I am writing to highlight a few of our plans for the 60th Annual Meeting that will be held June 27-July 1, 2020 in historic Charleston, South Carolina.
In June 2020, the Society will mark its’ 60th year as the foremost authority in birth defects research and developmentally-mediated disorders. During our 60th Annual Meeting, we will take a brief look into our past to review the historical perspective of chemicals that remain a global concern and then highlight other agents and environmental factors that currently (or have potential to) impact childhood health and development and the health of future generations. The Program Committee has planned an outstanding scientific program, but the success of the meeting will be due, in part, to the scientific contributions of our student attendees. Therefore, I am extending a personal invitation for you to contribute to the success of the meeting by submitting an abstract for a poster or platform presentation highlighting your cutting-edge research in one or more of our multidisciplinary areas of birth defects research.
The deadline for Abstract Submission is February 15th.
Please note that graduate students and postdoctoral fellows whose abstracts are accepted are eligible to apply for the following travel awards:
Student and Postdoctoral Fellow Travel Awards: All students and postdoctoral fellows who have an abstract accepted for presentation at the BDRP meeting will be eligible to receive a $500 travel award. After submitting an abstract through the Abstract Submission portal, each trainee must also complete the Travel Award application. Please note the Travel Award application deadline is February 22.
Edward W. Carney Trainee Award: This competitive award supports the travel of a graduate student or postdoctoral fellow to present at the BDRP meeting. Application requirements and instructions are available on the website. Please note the application deadline is February 15.
Wilson Platform Presentation and Bradford Memorial Poster Awards: These competitive awards recognize, respectively, the best presentation given during the Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Fellow Platform session and the best trainee poster at the annual meeting. More details on these two awards may be found on the website.
Full information regarding the Annual Meeting program, registration, lodging, room sharing, and more are available on the Annual Meeting Website.
We understand that travel budgets are tight. If you need documentation to submit with your request to attend the meeting, please contact headquarters at BDRP@birthdefectsresearch.org.
We hope to see you at the 60th Annual Meeting of the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention (BDRP) being held June 27-July 1, 2020 at the Charleston Marriott in Charleston, South Carolina!
