Session II of the NIEHS Superfund Research Program (SRP) Exposures and Latent Disease Risk e-Learning Webinar:

“Identifying Hallmarks and Key Characteristics”

In this webinar, presenters will discuss new methods to better understand potential disease risk by identifying key characteristics or hallmarks of chemicals and disease.  This research may provide insight into identifying chemicals that may lead to disease earlier on in the disease progression and help explore how aging itself can be a risk factor for disease.

Webinar Speakers:

  • Martyn Smith, Ph.D., University of California, Berkeley SRP Center;
  • Michele La Merrill, Ph.D., University of California, Davis;
  • Ron Kohanski, Ph.D., NIH National Institute on Aging (NIA); and

COVID-19 Specific Survey Items Are Available on the NIEHS-led NIH Disaster Research Response (DR2) Program Platform

NIEHS and the National Library of Medicine (NLM) co-lead the NIH Disaster Research Response (DR2) Program, the website for which includes a list of COVID-19 surveys and the domains assessed in the surveys.  A trans-NIH working group co-led by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR) worked to make existing COVID-19 survey items and investigator contact information available in this DR2 survey item repository.  In addition to the COVID-19 list, DR2 provides a wide array of data collection tools and resources used in other public health emergencies and disasters, providing researchers with a rich repository of survey and other measurement tools that are applicable to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additionally, a May 2020 edition Environmental Factor news article entitled, “Covid-19 researchers gain quick access to surveys, protocols:  Ready access to survey questionnaires, study protocols, and other resources makes for quick study launch and more consistent data,” spotlighted this development.
