Essential Job Duties

The primary purpose to perform independent and funded research in the laboratory of Dr. Heather Patisaul. Patisaul lab is housed in the department of Biological Sciences and the Center for Human Health and the Environment (CHHE) at NC State University.

Research conducted by the neuroscience-oriented CHHE faculty focuses largely on brain development and behavior, with special emphasis on epigenetics, sex differences, and gene by environment interactions. The Patisaul lab is highly collaborative and our research partners have complementary strengths including bioinformatics, genetics/genomics, and metabolomics/proteomics.

Position Details:
This NIH-funded postdoctoral position will lead research, using rats and prairie voles, to establish the degree to which developmental exposure to persistent pollutants affects placental development and function, with the goal of understanding how this impacts neurodevelopment and later in life behavior. Approaches include RNAseq, immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, and behavioral testing. Duties include supervising undergraduate work, developing independent, complementary lines of research, and working with a diverse, interdisciplinary team to achieve the research goals.

Other Work/Responsibilities

10% of the time supervising other members of the lab.

Occasional night and weekend work is required when working with live animals.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm and weekends as needed.

Department Required Skills

Candidates should have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Neuroscience, Toxicology, Endocrinology or related discipline, be highly motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

Successful candidates will possess a strong track record of training and publication in top toxicology, neuroscience, reproduction, and/or neuroendocrinology journals, and demonstrate a strong desire to perform high impact, translational work in Environmental Health. Experience with placental development or cell culture, RNAscope, RNAseq or other sequencing approaches, developmental neuroanatomy, and/or mass spectrometry of small molecules is desirable. A background in endocrine disruption or toxicology is preferred but not required.

Anticipated Hiring Range:  $51,000 - $55,000
