NIH - Scientific Review Officer, Scientific Review Branch (SRB)

Position Available: Scientific Review Officer, Scientific Review Branch (SRB)

The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking a scientific review officer with expertise relevant to administering the review of grant applications and contract proposals, including the recruitment of extramural scientists to serve as peer reviewers.

We are looking for applicants with clinical or research expertise who have a commitment to excellence and the energy, enthusiasm, and innovative thinking to administer scientific review meetings.

This position is in the SRB within NICHD’s Division of Extramural Research. SRB is responsible for a broad range of functions related to planning and conducting initial review of numerous types of grant applications and technical merit evaluation of contract proposals in the following areas: demography, social sciences, and population dynamics; male and female fertility and infertility; developing and evaluating contraceptive methods; improving women’s health before, during, and after pregnancy; reducing birth complications and increasing infant survival; enhancing the safety and efficacy of pharmaceuticals for use in pregnant women, infants, and children; HIV infection and transmission, AIDS, and associated infections; pediatric growth and endocrine research; child development and behavior; developmental biology and typical and atypical development; intellectual and developmental disabilities; gynecologic health conditions, including pelvic floor disorders; and childhood injury and critical illness.

SRB seeks a candidate who can employ strong leadership, collaborative, and communication skills in managing standing review committees and temporary scientific review groups, recruiting extramural scientists as peer reviewers, and providing policy direction and coordination for planning and conducting initial scientific and technical merit reviews for grant applications and contract proposals. The candidate should have completed all requirements for a doctoral-level degree (Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent) in a pertinent academic field.

This is an especially exciting time to join NICHD as we begin implementation of our strategic plan to shape and advance research in the near- and long-term future. Through implementation of this plan, this position will allow the successful candidate to help shape research opportunities that will directly impact the field, biomedical science, and public health for years to come.

This position is subject to a background check. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals. Foreign nationals or legal permanent residents are not eligible for the position.
