World-Renowned Experts Offer Potential Explanations for WA Birth Defects Spike
An unexplained spike in cases of anencephaly, a rare and fatal birth defect where part of the fetal brain and skull does not develop, has plagued the communities of Yakima, Franklin and Benton counties of Washington over the past four years. This was a topic of presentation during the Teratology Society 54th Annual Meeting in Bellevue, WA.
The press release, available on the Teratology Society website, details an anencephaly cluster affecting more than 30 families in rural Washington since 2010.
