Please join me in welcoming consultant Nicole Chavez to the Teratology Society team. Starting this month, Nicole will work closely with Council and the Communications Working Group to guide the development and implementation of an effective communications plan aimed at engaging current Society members as well as attracting new members. She will help us effectively communicate the Society’s goals and enhance the Society’s profile within the scientific community.
Nicole has more than 15 years of experience as a Marketing/Public Relations Consultant, Manager and Broadcast Journalist. Most recently Nicole has led the development of the MotherToBaby brand as the consumer-facing brand of our sister society, the Organization of Teratology Information Specialists (OTIS).
“I hope to bring a multi-media edge to the Teratology Society, providing committees creative direction on several platforms, including social media, web and internal communication strategies,” said Chavez. “The Teratology Society consists of the world’s leading experts in birth defects research. It’s important to communicate to more scientists the advantages of being part of such a prestigious organization. I’m excited to help facilitate that communication,” she added.
Nicole’s work will be overseen by Society President Mary Alice Smith with day-to-day reporting to Executive Director Heather Carskaddan. Nicole will participate in monthly teleconferences of the Communications Working Group and will also provide communications support and guidance to the Membership, Public Affairs, Website, Student Affairs and other committees as needed. Members will specific marketing or communications questions or ideas are encouraged to contact Heather Carskaddan at email@example.com.
