Dear Teratology Society Members:
In view of the recent vacancy of the Vice President-Elect position, Council has approved the following procedures according to our Constitution and Bylaws (CBL). A Special Election will take place. Given the lengthy time frame for the Nominations and Elections process (as outlined in the CBL), this Special Election will not take place until after the 2015 Annual Meeting. As such, the winner of the current election for VP-Elect will automatically be promoted to Vice President on July 1, and this individual will take over as Program Chair for the 2016 Annual Meeting. After the 2015 Annual Meeting, the Special Election will fill the position of VP-Elect for the 2015-2016 year.
We do not expect any interruption in the business of the Teratology Society and have made plans to ensure the planning for our 2016 Annual Meeting may proceed in a seamless fashion. Council has appointed John DeSesso and Tony Scialli as Interim Co-Chairs of the 2016 Program Committee. As Society Past Presidents, John and Tony have both been through the program planning process and are keen to help shepherd the committee through the initial planning stages and then hand off leadership to the new Vice President once the election results are in. We are very grateful to John and Tony for being willing to step up and take on this important role. Also, please note that both candidates in the current election, Sonja Rasmussen and Carolyn Kapron, are members of the 2016 Program Committee.
Members are encouraged to submit session proposals now for the Teratology Society's 56th Annual Meeting which will take place in San Antonio on June 25-29, 2016. The deadline for submissions has been extended to April 30th. The proposal form may be found by clicking HERE.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the Teratology Society 55th Annual Meeting this June 27 to July 1 in beautiful Montreal, Quebec. If you have not registered yet, I encourage you to do so!
With warm regards,
Mary Alice Smith
President, Teratology Society
