Congratulations to William Slikker Jr., PhD, 2015 Josef Warkany Lecturer! Dr. Slikker is currently a director for the National Center for Toxicological Research component of the Food and Drug Administration.

This award recognizes a scientist who has significantly contributed to the field of teratology over his/her career. The award recipient presents a lecture scheduled as a highlight of the Teratology Society's Annual Meeting.

“To be recognized by my peers within the Teratology Society, a unique Society that combines the expertise of clinical and basic researchers, drug developers, regulators, health communicators, among other health professionals, is a distinct honor,” said Dr. Slikker. “This recognition would not have been possible without the collaborative studies that were designed and conducted with many Teratology Society members over the years with the goal to prevent birth effects and improve public health.”

Dr. Slikker provided a preview of the talk he plans to give at this year’s Annual Meeting. “I hope to highlight the unique qualities of the Teratology Society as a multi-sector, multi-discipline scientific organization and how this is associated with its founding fathers and current membership,” he explained. “I will provide a brief summary of several collaborative studies to address the prevention of developmental toxicity that have been presented at the Society meetings over the years and conclude with a synopsis of our latest work to improve the safe use of anesthetics in pregnant women and children,” he added.

The 2015 Josef Warkany Lecture will be presented by Dr. Slikker on Sunday, June 28 at 8:15 am.
