Share Your Teratology Society Annual Meeting Stories to Support Travel for Federal Scientists

Share Your Conference Stories to Support Travel for Federal Scientists

by Deborah Speert, FASEB

A lead letter in the July 10 issue of Science co-signed by Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) Immediate Past President, Joseph R. Haywood, PhD, urges scientists to help advocate for the reduction of burdensome travel restrictions for federal scientists. The letter asks researchers to submit stories of professional collaborations, career advancement, or research discoveries that resulted from attendance at a scientific conference.

The letter in Science follows a formal letter to the Senate Appropriations Committee expressing concerns about the effect of federal travel restrictions on the scientific community. This letter was signed by FASEB and more than 100 other organizations that together represent millions of scientists, engineers, and mathematicians.

Current travel restrictions for federal employees make attendance at scientific conferences difficult to impossible. Approval to attend a conference at many agencies currently requires many levels of approval and up to nine months to process.

Attendees of the Teratology Society's 55th Annual Meeting are encouraged to submit your conference stories while still fresh in your minds!

The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) is the nation’s largest coalition of biomedical researchers, representing 27 scientific societies and over 125,000 researchers from around the world. FASEB is now recognized as the policy voice of biological and biomedical researchers. FASEB's Mission is to advance health and welfare by promoting progress and education in biological and biomedical sciences through service to our member societies and collaborative advocacy. The Teratology Society is a member of FASEB.
