On December 6, 2017, the American College of Toxicology and the Society of Toxicologic Pathology in collaboration with the Teratology Society and British Toxicology Society hosted a webinar entitled "Animal Models of Disease for Nonclinical Safety Assessment: Pharmaceutical Industry Survey." Teratology Society members may now access the webinar recording via the Educational Webinar Library HERE.
Speaker: Sherry J. Morgan, DVM, PhD, ACVP, ABVT, ABT; Senior Research Fellow, AbbVie
Webinar Abstract: Considerations for the use of animal models of disease will be discussed with specific examples of organ systems and/or responses that are generally either well or poorly predicted with the use of conventional animal models. The results of a recent survey (IQ Focus Group) that queried the current practices as it pertains to the use of animal models in nonclinical safety assessment will be presented. Attention is given to differentiating the use of animal models of disease in discovery vs. development as well as describing common themes across industry.
